Prepare an individual reading review paper summarizing and reviewing all the required readings for that day (10-12 pages) (20%) with attention to the questions posed for that week.

Possible paper outline:

• Introduction – week’s topic, the questions
• Review of readings – either by question or by themes of your choosing
• Synthesis of readings – what have your learned as a whole from these readings?
• Conclusion – recap of main findings and arguments from the week

Reading Questions for Covid-19 and WLB

1. Kurowska (2018) explores gendered impact of home-based work on the capability to

balance work with non-work in double-earner families with dependent children in Poland and Sweden. These two countries have distinct models of division of labour. Her

paper is written pre-Covid, but what can we take from her analysis and findings vis-à-vis

a new world of work in which many of us are now at home working? Interpret her

findings in relation to gender and the division of labour.

2. The remaining three readings for this week examine the impacts of Covid-19 on work

and WLB. What do the authors find? Do you think these impacts will be long lasting or

do you think things will go back to pre-Covid arrangements?

3. Think back to topics, concepts, theories and studies we’ve examined throughout this

course. What do you think will be the legacy of Covid-19 on WLB? Develop your

argument using authors we’ve reviewed in the course.
