Write a one paragraph summary. Topic: Write about a medical innovation and analyze a source. Step 1: Research an article about a medical innovation. If you are going to major in the medical field or in the sciences, try to find an article in your field. Otherwise, here are some suggested topics: Medical innovations to treat COVID patients Innovations for cancer therapy Use of drones in delivering medical supplies How smart technology can help monitor personal health (apple watches, fitbit, etc.) Use of stem-cells for curing disease Innovation in Gene Therapy The use of AI, artificial intelligence, in finding and treating disease *Hint: As you look for articles, make sure you find one that is appropriate for a “general” audience and is not written for the medical field. Find an article without a lot of jargon, or specific, complicated vocabulary which would make it difficult to summarize. These will be in many popular magazine or popular website. This means not using a difficult academic journal that’s written for other doctors. Find articles written for every day people. Step 2: Evaluate the quality of the source. After choosing your medical innovation article, check page 189 in your textbook for information on how to evaluate your online source. This includes how to evaluate your source based on: Purpose Authority Accuracy Currency Coverage **Note: remember to write down the website and any source information to give credit for where you found it. Step 3: Summarize the article in your own words. Requirements: Part 1: Summary Paragraph: You’ll need to include 1 paragraph summarizing the article Include a topic sentence as the first sentence that gives the author’s name, article title, and the main idea of the whole article. Remember to include the main ideas of the article by paraphrasing information from the article. Don’t copy directly. Include at least one quote in the paragraph following the guidelines on pg. 190 for in-text citations Remember to explain what the quotation means in your own words after you give it.
