Reader Response

Published by Brilliant Ravens

In this essay you will summarize and respond to the article “How to Understand the UN’s Dire New Climate Report” by Robinson Meyer. You can answer one or more of the questions below to help you arrive at your thesis statement. In addition to using these questions, you may also answer questions of your own.  What is different about this UN climate report, why is it important? Does Meyer effectively communicate this importance?  What was surprising about this article? Has this article changed the way you think about Climate Change?    Will this article convince a Climate Change skeptic that Climate Change is a real problem?  What could Meyer do to make his message more clear or more convincing? Your response to one or more of these questions should be thorough and thoughtful. Use specific examples (quotes and/or paraphrases) to “show” the reader what you mean when you are explaining your answers.   The elements of your essay should do the following: Your introduction should briefly introduce the article (3-5 sentences). The introduction should also include a clear thesis statement. (The thesis should directly mention the article). The body of the essay should include paragraphs that provide support and reasoning for your thesis statement, including quotes and paraphrased information from the article. The paragraphs should discuss how the author addresses the topic of climate change and what you think about how it is addressed.  The conclusion should restate your thesis in a new way and provide a sense of closure. For this essay assignment, I will be evaluating you on the following criteria: Does the essay follow the instructions in the prompt? Does the essay have a clear and arguable thesis statement? Does each body paragraph have a topic sentence? Is the essay organized in a clear, logical manner? Is the essay free of major grammatical errors and typos?
