This assignment has two parts: thesis and annotated bibliography. Part 1 State your tentative thesis (claim) for your Essay 2: Research Argument in 1 – 3 sentences. This claim is based on what you have learned to date and will likely continue to evolve as you complete more research. That is why it is “tentative.” Note: “tentative” doesn’t mean unedited. The statement should use clear, careful word choices and be edited to eliminate grammatical errors. Part 2 Required Sources: Provide your annotated bibliography of 6 new sources that you plan to use in your research argument according to the following. By new, I mean you can’t recycle your Discussion 3 source. Three sources located full-text in the CCC periodical databases, including at minimum two in-depth academic journal articles (each at least 8 single spaced pages/4,000 words) (See SA p. 351 for features of scholarly journal articles) Three additional reliable sources that illustrate a variety in your research Variety can be illustrated through differing perspectives—such as sources including opposing perspectives to your position as well as through variety in source types—news, government authored information, reliable .org information, professional lecture like TedTalks, etc. The possibilities are vast for your three additional sources, but remember, the sources should be ones you plan to use in Essay 2 and that you can prove to me are reliable for the purpose you intend to use them!) Entries: Each entry should begin with the correct MLA (works cited) or APA (references) citation. Source Citations should not be numbered. Rather they should use hanging indent and be ordered alphabetically as you would in a work cited or reference page. After each source citation, include the following Referential Summary: Summaries should capture the gist of the important information in the source, such as thesis and key reasoning, study coverage and findings, etc. Length will depend on the source complexity—a few sentences could adequately summarize a brief newspaper article. A paragraph or two might be needed to summarize a scholarly study. Relevance & Source Evaluation: Provide a one paragraph justification that shows the relevance and reliability of source for the purpose you intend to use it in your paper. You are proving reliability to me, so you must discuss a combination of most of the standard source evaluation criteria (authority, currency, bias, place of publication/source purpose, etc.) Tip: Look over the sample Annotated Bibliography provided before completing this assignment.
