Write an unbiased research paper comparing and contrasting at least two different viewpoints on a topic of your choice.  Your essay must be 1250 words minimum plus a Works Cited page. You’ll need to identify the different individuals and/or groups who are on each side of the topic and present the reasons why some people think one way and others think another way. Your goal is not to discover who is “right.” Your goal is to understand the issues that impact how people view this topic.   For this reason, you’ll need to mediate between the differing perspectives surrounding the topic without arguing for a side. You must use at least four credible sources for your essay. At a minimum, your paper needs to satisfy the following criteria. A focused topic with a thesis that goes beyond the points made in the essays we read for class; remember that your thesis statement should act as a roadmap for your paper. Your thesis should present the different perspectives on the topic, who believes each perspective, and why. Relevant, concrete details that support your thesis. A logical pattern of organization; transitions from one idea to the next that guide your reader through your material; unified paragraphs. Language and tone adapted to your subject, purpose, and audience. A variety of sentence types. Accurate, well-documented use of sources, including summaries, paraphrases, and direct quotations. Few or no errors in correctness (grammar, format, etc.) that distract the reader.
