The purpose of this project is to articulate everything you have learned about one “big idea” from this semester that particularly interests you. What that idea is will be up to you. If it were me,  I might choose to talk about “White Fragility”. Or perhaps I might talk about the effects of slavery on contemporary America including but not limited to wealth disparities, educational disparities, health disparities, political viewpoints, intergenerational trauma, etc. Or, I might focus on the history of residential segregation in the Buffalo area (city + suburbs) and look at things including but not limited to redlining, White Flight, food deserts, efforts to shut down Civil Rights legislation that made it easier for African Americans to move to Buffalo’s suburbs, etc., etc. Again, the choice of topic is up to you. But whatever you choose, make sure you put forth your best effort. That is the single most important aspect of this assignment and of your grade. There are three options or “modalities” from which you will select one to achieve this project’s goals.  OPTION 3: TRADITIONAL ESSAY Traditional argumentative essay with introduction, body, and conclusion sections. The purpose of an argumentative essay is to express a point/message/idea in clear and convincing ways. Spend your effort on: writing vivid details that lead to clear mental images for the audience (me), fully explaining the topic from different “angles” with as much supporting evidence and information as possible, and articulate a clear and easy to follow message/messages about your chosen topic.
