Operations Management and Factors Affecting Productivity (100 points)
Maduro Cleaning is a small organization that provides cleaning services to both residential and commercial clients. As a small organization, the owner assigns crews of two, three, or four employees to jobs each morning but the owner does not have a good method of determining a reasonable amount of time that each cleaning should take. The owner decided to keep data on job times and crew sizes in the hopes of developing a productivity measure.

ANSWER AND BRIEF EXPLANATION!!
Section (A):
In order to find the crew size that has the best productivity per worker; then it is effective to divide the meters cleaned per day by the number of workers. The computation is provided below
2-man Crew Productivity = 3765 / 2 = 1,882.50
3-man Crew Productivity = 4915 / 3 = 1,638.33
4-man Crew Productivity = 6309 / 4 = 1,577.25
Based on the computations above the 2-man crew is the most productive. This team size maximizes the output per individual.
Section (B).
Based on the results, it is likely that crews larger than 2 impede productivity, because the workers are getting in each other’s way. Additionally, larger crews may exhibit a higher degree of socializing, which could detract from performance.
Section (C)
By increasing from 2 to 3 men, productivity declines by 12.97% (1,638.33/1,882.50 – 1 = .1297). By increasing from 3 to 4 men, productivity declines by 3.73% (1,577.25/1,638.33 – 1 = .0373). The decline in productivity seems to diminish as the crew count gets bigger, but this doesn’t seem logical. Perhaps, there are other underlying drivers at play. Since we lack a larger data set to study, let us take the average of the two productivity decline percentages as follows: (12.97% + 3.73%)/2 = 8.35%.
Using this data point, the projected productivity for a 5-man crew is below.
5-man Crew Productivity = 1,577.25 * (1 – .0835) = 1,445.55
