Assignment: Finding Evidence Assignment Due April 17 at 11:59 PM Revisit the working thesis you drafted for Assignment: Prewriting. That thesis makes claims: it argues that a particular group of students will experience stronger college success outcomes if they adopt a particular practice. Make a list of evidence that will be required to prove to your reader that each of the following claims is true. Claim 1: the student population you’ve identified faces challenges in college success Claim 2: the behavior or practice you’ve identified will offer that student population a benefit Some evidence might come from personal experience; some evidence might come from what you’ve witnessed others experience; and some might be guesses or hypotheses of what you assume to be true. Please do NOT conduct research for this essay. We will get to that in a later course unit. Include 3-5 items of evidence for each claim. For each item on the list, draw from your own experience or the experience of others. Write two brief paragraphs (3-5 sentences, each) summarizing your findings. One paragraph will address each claim and what you know about it. Step One Complete a full draft of your Academic Argument Essay. The thesis will be supported in the body of the essay with evidence demonstrating why this practice will increase success and how it can be implemented. Assignment Details The final essay will be 750-1000 words long. It will include a thesis statement that is supported by evidence. It will be well-organized, and display evidence of careful application of the writing process.
