Research Question, Thesis Statement, and Paper – You will develop a six to eight-page (current APA Style) research paper. Develop your topic into one clear concise research question and create a thesis statement. Compile your (one) question, thesis statement, and research into a written four to six-page written paper. You must also include a title-page and reference-page for a total of six to eight-pages. You can write from any perspective or lens that interests you: historical, scientific, technological, engineering, or mathematical. This research paper must include the following elements: Title-page Body (four to six pages) Introduction – Tells the reader what you are going to write about and includes your thesis statement. Be sure to make it interesting so the reader will want to continue and read the rest of your work. Body of the Paper – Goes through each point you want to illustrate by providing your ideas and your research about the topic. Be sure you write an opening sentence for each paragraph that will draw your reader into your idea or point. Conclusion/Summary – Reminds the reader what you wrote about in your work. It is similar to the introduction but with a concluding statement. Reference-page The topic I would like to write and research about is the speed of sound. Chuck Yeager was first person to break the speed of sound in 1947 flying the XB-1, clearly demonstrating that safe flight at the speed of sound was possible. Many people believed the airplane would break apart and others weren’t actually sure what would happen. By the mid 1950s many combat aircrafts were breaking the speed of sound routinely. The lens I’m interested in here is the engineering side of breaking the speed of sound. I would like to better understand why this is important aspect to air travel and the true benefits behind it, other than just getting somewhere quicker. The sound barrier was first broken in 1947 yet we still manufacture and produce passenger aircrafts that are unable to break the speed of sound. I plan on using sources from the Hunt library to find out more information on the history and evolution of the sound barrier. Title: Breaking the Sound Barrier    Research Question: Why is it important to break the sound barrier?    Thesis Statement:  Imagine a world that is more accessible than ever. A world where we can travel faster through time zones than anyone has ever imagined. We have been given the opportunity to travel through the speed of sound all made part by the pioneering advancements of Charles “Chuck” Yeager. This man’s courage and will power showed us that limits can be broken. Breaking this limit demonstrates our abilities to find the faster most efficient way to travel through air.
