The topic is the prescribing power of FNP’s in the state of Texas and the battle to change the laws. Below there are links to some insightful websites that will aid you in discussion.
take the stance of yes to allow FNP to prescribe without a M.D. authority and without restrictions in Texas.
Using data that you find, life experiences and persuasive points we will have the discussion. Posting data, articles/newspaper links, and quotes are encouraged but there must be original and authentic discussion also.
You will be graded by your initial 4-5 sentence post (opening statement). Then by finding a opposing viewpoint and making contrasting comments. You then will have to have at least one rebuttal to any classmate/instructor who posted on your opening statements. You are scored based on a minimum of 3 post. A post of only a link doesn’t qualify as a posting.

When it comes to the prescribing power of FNPs, I believe they shouldn’t have the same power as a medical doctor especially when dealing with drugs like opioids, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, and carisoprodol (Soma). I oppose the prescribing power when it comes to certain drugs because they can be highly addictive and even detrimental to certain individuals. I believe one should have extensive training when dealing with medications specifically those that are highly addictive. According to the Texas Board of Nursing Bulletin, “Patients who are at risk for or who have known histories of substance use disorder are likely to require consultation and possible referral to providers with significant expertise in addictionology. Likewise, patients with co-existing psychological and/or psychiatric disorders will also require consultation and possible referral to an expert in the treatment of these disorders or conditions. APRNs must be aware of the limitations of their own level of knowledge and expertise and must refer appropriately as indicated.” FNPs must be skilled and have good judgement when prescribing medication because it could cause extremely harmful benefits to the patient.
