Write an 8-page essay that critically examines global music with regard to at least one of the following three areas, as broadly defined and discussed in the course: profits, poetry, and power. Any images and the Works Cited page do not count toward the page requirement. Please ensure that your essay meets the minimum required length of 8 pages. Your essay must be written according to the following specifications. It is very important that you follow these guidelines. Not doing so will have a significant negative impact on your paper grade. Your final essay should not overlap with the earlier essay or any discussion post in terms of themes, content, arguments, and sources.
The essay must demonstrate clear and deep engagement with theoretical perspectives, concepts, and arguments from readings by at least three authors covered in the course. (I attached the 3 readings for you.)
The essay must have a well-defined focus. For example, you may choose to examine how the economics of the global music industry and technological developments like streaming services have resulted in a standardized and homogeneous notion of what counts as global music. The focus of your essay should, obviously, be clearly related to the content of the readings you have selected.
The essay must show evidence of original thought. This means that it is not sufficient to merely quote, present, or paraphrase arguments from the selected readings. Having identified a focus, you must present coherent, original, arguments about that topic or issue in your essay. Your essay needs to demonstrate categorical evidence of your own thoughts through at least three such arguments. In articulating your own arguments, you may agree with, disagree with, extend, or apply the views of the other authors. Your own arguments should be substantiated through a careful engagement with the selected readings.
The essay must use at least two external academic sources, such as journal articles, book chapters, or books as supporting material. Your essay should demonstrate sufficient engagement with these secondary academic sources on global music, broadly defined.
The essay must include an engagement with at least three specific examples of global music, none of which are part of course materials. You may, of course, use additional examples, including those found in the course materials.
