You will be asked to determine whether a passages are arguments and identify the conclusions and/or
premises of arguments. Exercises (a)-(e) on p. 10 of your Stich & Donaldson text are also recommended

You will be asked to determine whether arguments are valid. Practice questions of this type are questions (i)-
(k) on p. 13 of your text (answers on p. 24). Additional practice questions are Exercises #1 & 2 here

You will be asked to define and give examples of both enumerative induction and abduction, pp. 13-16 in Stich
& Donaldson.
For Multi-step argument questions: You will be asked to write out a multistep argument as a numbered list of
statements with marginal comments indicating how the statements are related. For examples see section 6 in
your text pp. 16-18. Practice exercises (o) – (s) are on p. 18 of Stich & Donaldson (answers on p.p.24-25). Your
answer should look like the following. The final conclusion of the argument is the last statement listed
(1) If it was the taxi driver who murdered the drummer, there would have been blood on the seats of the taxi.
(Premise).
(2) There was no blood in the taxi. (Premise)
(3) The taxi driver didn’t murder the drummer. (From 1, 2)
(4) It was either the taxi driver or the roadie that murdered the drummer. (Premise)
(5) The roadie murdered the drummer. (From 3. 4)
