Psalms Reflection

Published by Brilliant Ravens

Hassell Bullock, C. (2018). Encountering the book of Psalms (2nd ed.). Chapter 2: Listening to the Symphony of Praise: Interpreting the Psalms Chapter 5: Encountering Theology and History in the Psalms Chapter 9: The Lord is My Shepherd, I Shall Not Want: Psalms of Trust Chapter 12: My Mouth Will Speak Words of Wisdom: Wisdom Psalms Chapter 13: The Law of the Lord is Perfect, Reviving the Soul: Psalms of Torah Psalms 8–10, 63, 78, 111, & 112 (for each psalm assigned for this session, read through it first on your own, then look at the corresponding entries in Kidner.) Your assignment for this session is to write a personal reflection on your assigned reading (Psalm 8, 9, 10, 63, 78, 111, and 112). The point of this exercise is to help you process the reading material. Do not make this a research assignment! Use only the biblical text and the corresponding commentary entry. After you read the psalms, reflect on those elements that stand out to you. This may include its form, a clarification of meaning from the commentary, a possible application scenario, how this psalm speaks to you right now, insights on poetic structure, the setting, etc. In your paper, you need to select two psalms from our reading, and reflect on them. Your paper should be about two pages long, not including a required cover page and works cited page, so you should cover each psalm in about one page. Though it is a reflection paper, it should still be written as an academic paper, double-spaced, and formatted according to APA standards. Provide a heading at the beginning of each of your two selected psalms, but only one title page and reference page is necessary for this submission. Be sure to also include in-text citations which gives evidence that you have used your course resources — specifically, your commentary.
