For this project, you are to research a topic in the natural, applied, or social sciences that relates in some way to your major or future profession. The topic must be recent, within the last 20 years, since scientific information is judged by its timeliness. The project will contain three parts: a research proposal, an annotated bibliography, and a research paper. All three parts of the project must rely on scholarly, peer reviewed research. See the schedule for due dates. The Research Proposal should be about 2 pages, double-spaced. The proposal should do the following: Summarize the topic in the natural, applied, or social sciences you wish to research State your research question (what you wish to learn) in the form of a question with a question mark (?) Explain why you wish to research it (personal experience or academic interest) Summarize the significance or importance of the topic to your discipline or the world Include in-text citations for general audience sources to support your statements (news sources, encyclopedias, etc.) Present the proposal in APA paper format (no abstract) Include APA Documentation of sources used (References page) Grades will be available in about a week under My Grades in Blackboard. See the schedule for due dates. The APA Annotated Bibliography is like an APA References page, but with summaries for each entry. The research you put into the Annotated Bibliography will help you write the APA Research paper (see the assignment sheet for the APA Research Paper). You do not have to use all the sources from the APA Annotated Bibliography in the APA Research Paper. You do not need to write a new APA Annotated Bibliography for any new sources you decide to use in the APA Research Paper.  The Annotated Bibliography should be about 3 pages, double-spaced, and include the following items: APA Paper Format—Provide title and class information on the title page, double-space, use 12-point font, and number pages. You do not need to include an abstract. Title—The title should state, “An Annotated Bibliography on (your research topic).” APA Documentation Style—The Annotated Bibliography entries should follow APA documentation style. Alphabetize the entries by author’s last name, or by article title if no author is indicated. Scholarly Sources—Summarize three scholarly sources. All sources must relate to the topic of your research paper. Use articles from scholarly, peer reviewed journals or books that you locate through the library databases. You may supplement your research paper with non-peer reviewed sources as well as scholarly, but you only need to summarize three scholarly sources for the Annotated Bibliography. Annotations/Summaries—Provide one summary, in Rhetorical Précis format, for each source. Each summary must be introduced by a References entry for that source. Summaries must use complete sentences. The summaries should be informative, rather than critical. Summaries should not contain quotations. Summarize in your own words. In addition to the précis, end each summary with a statement of how you intend to use the source in your research paper.
