Strengths are things that you are good at but also enjoy using. I like the Marcus Buckingham definition that “strengths are activities, skills, or talents that make you feel strong”. You not only need to be good at them (the traditional definition), you need to be energized when using them (the new definition). If you don’t enjoy using them, why would you want to let them dictate your life? Leading experts on the topic of strengths agree that following the strengths we most enjoy using gives us the greatest chance at work and life satisfaction. For most students, talking about their strengths is uncomfortable at first. It is something that you should try to get more comfortable with because articulating your strengths will make a huge difference in job interviews and can also help you end up in the right role/job within your future place of employment(s). This assignment has 3 main parts that must be done (as instructed) in order to get full credit. Part 1: Please take the VIA Survey of Character Strengths assessment to give you an idea of some of your possible strengths. There are many good assessments on this topic, but the only one you must take for this assignment is the VIA Survey of Character Strengths (Links to an external site.) . Keep record of your username and password so you can log back in and see them all whenever you want. Part 2: Select what you believe are your top 5 strengths from this assessment, the ones that you strongly identify with and would enjoy using in your career. For each strength, name it and give your best example of a time you demonstrated that strength; either at work, school or in your personal life. Example: One of my top strengths is that I am very creative. For example, when I was a junior in college I served as the president for the international club where I came up with the idea for every one of our most successful events. The other club members seemed to truly like my ideas and think they were worth implementing and the attendees commented on how creative the events were.
