Vocational training has some positive and negative aspects when implemented in correctional facilities. In the Article “The Impact of Vocational Education and Training Programs on Recidivism: A Systematic Review of Current Experimental Evidence” by Danielle Newton, Andrew Day, Margaret Giles, Joanne Wodak, Joe Graffam, Eileen Baldry describes a reason vocational training is beneficial stating: “Given that prison training programs have the potential to be offered to large numbers of prisoners, they have become an attractive option for correctional administrators who are seeking to reduce re-offending and re-incarceration rates.” There has been research that supports the effectiveness of vocational training, however, whether it is effective enough in its current state to justify its cost and use still remains under debate for several factors. focus on including more peer-reviewed, empirical research articles and expand your focus to questions such as: What makes the program special or innovative? Who are the key stakeholders who have supported or opposed the program or effort? What challenges has it faced and how did it overcome those challenges? Does it apply the principles of risk, need and responsivity, or other evidence-based practices?
