Most people would say that health care policy is more ‘liberal’ in the United States than in Canada as this term is used by Esping-Andersen. That is, the American model involves less state intervention in pursuit of equality and more individual self-reliance. Looking at the overall design of health care in each country, and at recent developments in the two countries [the past 10 years], do you believe that this view is correct? Secondly, have the Canadian and American systems become more similar or more different during these recent years?
