PROMPT: For this module, you were asked to read Book 7, Chapter 99 & Book 8, Chapters 40-41, 49-107 of Herodotus’ The Histories. In these chapters, Herodotus details the decisive battle of the Persian Wars – the Battle of Salamis. For this discussion, please address the following questions: how does Herodotus portray Artemisia in his Histories and what is his assessment of her? Do you believe Artemisia’s gender shapes Herodotus’ portrait of her; if so, how? Use evidence from the text to support your argument. Please summarize your thoughts on this question in a post at least two paragraphs in length and share it below.
